Simple Extractions

At Northwest Smile Center, we understand that the thought of tooth extractions can feel daunting, but it’s a common procedure designed to improve your oral health and prevent further complications.
How to Know If You Need a Tooth Extracted
Are you wondering if a tooth extraction might be necessary? It’s not always easy to know when it’s time to say goodbye to a tooth, but some clear signs can help. If you're dealing with severe pain, extensive tooth decay, or crowding that’s making it hard to smile comfortably, it might be time to consider an extraction. Teeth are typically removed when they’ve suffered irreparable trauma, have irreversible decay, or need to make space for orthodontic treatments like braces.

What Should You Expect During the Process?

At Northwest Smile Center, we understand that the thought of a tooth extraction can feel overwhelming, but rest assured, our team makes the process as smooth and comfortable as possible. Extractions are outpatient procedures, meaning you’ll be in and out quickly. You’ll have several anesthesia options to choose from, including local anesthesia, IV sedation, or general anesthesia—whatever helps you feel most at ease. If you’re anxious about anesthesia, local anesthesia is a great option, numbing only the extraction site so you stay relaxed and pain-free.
Many people fear extractions, but it’s often much easier than expected! Bleeding is typically minimal, and recovery times are short. Depending on your anesthesia choice, we may ask you to avoid eating for 12 to 24 hours before the procedure, and it’s always a good idea to arrange for someone to drive you home afterward.

How to Heal After Your Extraction

Once your tooth is out, proper care of the extraction site is crucial for smooth healing. Avoiding complications like infection or dry socket (when the blood clot protecting the area becomes dislodged) is easy with a few simple steps. Dry socket can be painful, exposing sensitive nerves, so if you’re feeling intense discomfort 2 to 3 days after the extraction, give us a call right away. We’ll be here to help.

At Northwest Smile Center, we’re committed to making your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
